Daily Picture – 14

I took this picture early this afternoon from the ramparts of Fort Regent.  What struck me about this snapshot of urban St Helier is the location of the Parish Church.  During the medieval period the church was on the edge of St Aubins Bay and it wasn’t until the late 15th century that a sea wall was built 16 feet south of the Church.  Effectively this means that all of the land with buildings on has been reclaimed for the sea.  It’s hard to imagine that 700 years ago we could have traveled to Sunday service by kayak.
